Welness in the Schools February Community Letter

February 5, 2015

Dear West Prep Partners:

I hope everyone is staying safe and warm during these cold winter days.

We've had some exciting activity going on at West Prep. In early January we held our

first WITS Cafe Day. As part of the WITS program, a restaurant partner is assigned to

the school to lead special events, act as wellness ambassadors and inspire students.

West Prep is partnered with Henry's, located at the corner of 105th and Broadway.

Henry Reinhart and the executive chef, Dave Ferraro, came to the cafeteria and

provided samples of the Lenape Indian Three Sisters Soup. Students had the chance to

sample soup, along with homemade cornbread as well as learn about the tradition

behind the soup. The recipe is included in this months letter, be sure to check it out!

The second round of WITS Labs was held the second week of January. In this lab students learned to make a vegetarian chili. Students were assigned various tasks and came together to make a nutritious and delicious dish. There was also a toppings bar, which gave students the chance to customize their chili. A similar dish is served in the cafeteria so I hope to see it become more popular.

Stay warm and as always, thank you for your continued support.
